Dave Lynch has been a film-maker/animator and artist living in Leeds for the past 7 years. Below is his practice statement.
My practice engages a diversity of communities creating works for specific locations and situations sing materials from varied sources, which culminate using the framework of time-based media through interactive digital live art processes including performance, installation, animation and film/video production.
I conduct intense research submerging oneself in people and place to form site-specific responses where my work creates a personal relationship with the audience by engaging with their familiar spaces – individual and collective – onlooker and passer-by.
My practice by its very nature is expanding; this is not only in response to multi-sensory immersive new technologies and new sites, but fundamentally in response to my own creative ambitions.
Working in different environments creates a flow and motion that can only be seen by structural elements of my work. The majority of this work is situated in and around contemporary spaces using guerrilla strategies and improvisation.
Throughout all my work is a string of collaborations - I have a very strong personal view that for a collaboration to be valid - is for all involved to gain and progress with their practice from the work undertaken. I find this to be a highly productive way of working.
